Whatever Tuesday

It's been a long time since I've been to the theatre to see a movie. However, here are several that are coming out this fall that I'm excited to see.

The Giver, which conveniently comes out on my birthday in a few weeks. I read the book in 8th grade and loved it. I don't remember the whole premise, but I am excited to see the movie.

Mockingjay Part 1, which comes out right around my due date. Early or late push present perhaps? I don't remember what happens in the last book, but the two previous movies didn't disappoint and I'm sure this one won't either.

Divergent comes out next week on blue-ray, but who knows when it will hit red box. I'm not expecting much from the movie, but it should be entertaining.

I haven't read as many books this summer as I would like to, but here are a few on my list and some that I still haven't completed from earlier this year.

I am participating in a book review of a book that comes out this fall Growing Up Social. The author spoke at our MOPS meeting this spring and is hilarious. I have another one of her books that I'm working my way through as well.

Are there any additional books/movies that should be on my list? Come September I'll have to list out my fall tv show schedule.

Right now tv is rather boring me, which is a good thing, but I have been keeping up with Big Brother.  I don't know if it's this season or the people or what, but I'm kinda over it. The only problem is, it's one of two channels we actually get so I'll still continue to to watch it. I don't have a favorite yet. Everyone seems dull or at least that's how I feel the producers are portraying the cast.

Whatever Weekend

Who knew that sleep training for a toddler would be harder than training an infant. The three of us here haven't been getting much sleep the past week. We switched C to her toddler bed last weekend. We've had success 20% of the time, however I'm thinking it's only because she was exhausted those times. Last night we spent an hour trying to console/settling her down in order for her to sleep. In the end she fell asleep on the floor and woke up at 2am to sleep with me. I don't know how long I want to to continue this pattern before we try a "big" bed. Naps have also been hit or miss and this momma needs her girl to take a nap.

Our "monkey" may be done for good. C has slowly been biting it more and creating a hole in it. Today she asked for us to fix it so we cut a piece off and she wanted more cut. We eventually did cut more off and now she realizes it doesn't work the same. Sleep may be more difficult in the coming nights.

Party prep/planing is underway for C's birthday. Why is it that the supplies/decorations I need are already out of season. I don't need anything special per say but the stuff I wanted the Dollar Store no longer carries. I guess party city will have to do.

Have I mentioned that it's HOT here.

Comic-Con 2014

We once again were able to get tickets to Comic-Con which is going on this weekend is SD. We were able to go on Friday this year and it did not disappoint. We ended up going in the afternoon after David finished up working. We dressed C up in case we saw someone famous. On our way there we stopped by Kansas City BBQ where several scenes from Top Gun were filmed. I think the appropriate choice considering where we were headed. The food was ok and now we can say we've been there.

Minnie Mouse does Comic-Con.

People came out dressed to kill. I have to say, with all the tv that I watch I didn't recognize many of the costumes. I guess I'm not into as many of the cultish tv shows as I thought. Since C was with us we didn't participate in any of the panels. I'm not sure we would have gotten into any of them, since the lines were long. We had wanted to view the Orphan Black panel but figured it was going to be one of the more popular panels and are chances were slim of getting in. I wish I had been on my game and took a picture of Sharknado. Yes, someone created a Sharknado headpiece. It was pretty cool.

We walked around the exhibit hall which is massive. Last year we missed out on the exclusive Ugly Dolls and this year that was our first stop. We scored a Joker and Batman doll. I wanted the Wonder Women one, but C choose the Joker. We passed by a Mocking Jay signing, but I didn't recognize any of the actors. After more wondering around we headed out to check out what was on the street.

At some point C decided to take a nap and we paused our travels to rest. We sat down next to a group that was dressed up as Dr. Who. They were "hiding out" from the paparazzi of attendees that wanted a photo of them. Apparently there were lots of Dr. Who references that I missed. Maybe I should check out the show??

Hopefully we'll be lucky enough to go back next year, sans kids.

The Sequel

We had planned another photo for our gender announcement, but since it didn't work out we opted to use this cutie and she happily, for once, obliged. Baby Boy Greer will be here in November and we are thrilled. I have no idea if she really understands what is happening, but we have been talking about babies and she will even kiss my stomach at night. She also thinks there's a baby in her belly button.

Whatever Weekend

Does it feel like this is the longest week ever to anybody else? Maybe it's because we haven't had plans this week or because of the holiday weekend but it's dragging for me. Thankfully we had plans Thursday and Friday.

Charlotte turns 2 next month and still it attached to her "monkey" (paci for everyone else). I know I shouldn't stress about it, but I would like her to be weaned from it by her birthday. I know what you are thinking, good luck. She's getting much better at giving it to me if I ask her and we try to leave it in her bed, but she can reach it. Any tips or tricks are appreciated. We've considered cutting a hole in it and going cold turkey. Neither of which sound great.

We are also entering the beginning stages of potty training. We entered this idea a few months ago, but she wasn't completely ready. I don't know if she is ready now or not, but she wants to sit on the potty. It's been awhile since she's actually gone, but we keep trying. I'm working on a potty chart for her and we bought big girl pannies today. I don't know if I should try the 2-3 day approach or keep going at our own pace. Suggestions are welcome.

We are also trying to decide on when/if we move her to a toddler bed or just move her to a big bed. I know there are pros/cons to both. Depending on what we do, I am getting excited about decorating a big girl room.

23 Months

23 Months

Height: 31 inches; 25th percentile*
Weight: 20 lbs. 3oz.; 5th percentile*
Head Size: 18.27 inches; 51st percentile*
Teeth: 14 (6 on top, 8 on bottom) We are still waiting on the top two
Foods: You are eating much better. Favorites of late are hot dogs and cereal
Words: So many. You are talking in complete or incomplete sentences most of the time.
Mommy's Milestones: You can pick out Chick-fil-a from any shopping center parking lot, You love reading books - we joined the summer reading club and you finished in a day, you hate wearing headbands and bows, you attach yourself to "friends" anywhere we go, you haven't met a person you don't like and not something mommy is proud of but you have started mimicking mommy when she gets frustrated. It's definitely something mommy needs to work on. You have shown an interest in potty training, but I can tell we are going to need to wait until you are really ready to begin.

4th of July and Pinterest Projects

I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th and ate lots of food, swam a great deal and watched/shot off fireworks! We did all those things, well except for the shooting off fireworks part. It is illegal in SD to sell and/or purchase fireworks. Bummer for kids and adults.

We watched a local show Thursday night. I wasn't sure how C would react but she loved it. Actually she loved running around with "friends", the term she uses for anyone her age.

We were invited to a block party on Friday and had a blast. The hosts rented a huge water slide which C went down once, had a slip-n-slide and a kiddie pool. They had amazing food and activities to occupy the whole day. C had so much fun playing with the other kids and I enjoyed a relatively relaxing afternoon chatting and eating with friends. After about 5 hours with no nap we headed home to check on daddy who was feeling under the weather and stayed home.

It wouldn't be a holiday unless the mantel was decorated. A friend of mine made paper fans for her daughter's birthday and I loved them. I had printed off the subway art last summer so we reused that piece. I made pinwheels last summer too, but I don't remember where I found the tutorial. This year I made parade wands for the kids to use as "sparklers". The bucket with clothespins is from our summer bucket list activity thanks to MOPS. We've completed a few items on our to do list and I'm planning to print off photos to hang on the mantle.

Weekend Getaway: LA

We headed up to LA this weekend for some time away. It was nice to trade one busy city for another. We left Saturday morning made a pit-stop Chick-fil-a, of course, and made arrangements to meet someone and pick up Dodgers/Cardinals tickets. After grabbing our tickets, checking into our hotel and doing an outfit change we were off. We picked up a stragler otherwise known as Yohan, and headed to the field, but first we made a stop for shaved ice. This stuff was good, light airy and overall delicious.

We made it to the game to see Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcon yell those famous baseball words "Play Ball".  I was a little starstruck, but I'm guessing the LA fans see celebrities all the time. I'm not going to lie, the game was disappointing. It wasn't only the score, but the errors made by the Cardinals. After the first inning which lasted at least an hour, the game seemed to drag on. We left during the 7th inning stretch.

Since the evening was still young, we headed over to Little Tokyo to dinner and sightseeing. We ate a yummy curry dish, which I can't remember the name of. We were stuffed but decided to get dessert anyway. Karaoke was happening in the square and Charlotte was getting jiggly with it. We were clearly the minority in Little Tokyo and a group of girls starting snapping pictures of Charlotte dancing. We stopped for macarons and they were delicious even if we ate them the next day.

The next morning we slept in or slept in as much as you can with a toddler. We met up with Yohan again and headed over to the Getty. This place was huge and provided an incredible view of LA.
