Pinterest Thursday: MOPS Edition

We kicked off our MOPS semester last week and I am so excited for this year. I love the theme "Be You Bravely".  I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to become a Discussion Group Leader in addition to participating on our Creative Team. Pinterest as well as the MOPS Idea Center are a great source of inspiration. Our creative team has found several ideas on both sites that we have incorporated into our planning. Here are a few things from our meetings.

Summer Wrap Up

Earlier this summer I wrote out a bucket list of activities that I wanted to do over the summer. I thought I would go ahead and write an update on our activities and write out a fall bucket list.

Summer Bucket List

1. Weekend trip to Catalina - We didn't make it this year.
2. Splashpad - We took advantage of the new Downtown Waterfront Park and a kids pool

3. Strawberry Picking - We missed the season, but there is always next year.
4. Sea World - we haven't been, but have plans to go this month.
5. Beach Day - We went with our church family group, but sadly I didn't take any pictures. We definitely need to visit at least one more time, before the baby comes.
6. Take a day trip on the Coaster - Not this summer.
7. Disneyland - Maybe next summer
8. Camping - Maybe next year
9. Go to the racetrack - I had so much fun, I plan to go back next year.

10. Zoo/Safari Park - We went three times!

12. Outdoor Movie in the Park - Another activity we did we our church family group

13. See fireworks - We were able to see them the night before, then enjoy a day with friends.

14. Poway Train Depot - We haven't been, but plan to go this fall.
15. Eat at a Food Truck - I haven't seen many up where we live, but I plan on finding the pretzel truck.
16. Go See the Cardinals play at Dodgers Stadium - We saw the Cardinals play, in KC, SD and LA.

17. Blake Shelton Concert

Things that weren't on our original list that we did.

1. Ice cream date with daddy

2. Comic-Con

3. Chick-fil-a Cow Day

4. Celebrated Birthdays

4. Spent week with cousins

Here is what we have on tap for fall/winter

1. Apple Picking in Julian
2. Botanical Gardens in Encinitas
3. Aquarium (this might be a spring activity)
4. Pumpkin Patch
5. Family Photos

Whatever Wednesday

Disclaimer: This post is primarily going to revolve around baby/pregnancy stuff so if that doesn't interest you feel free to check back tomorrow for another post.

First up, I follow along the November Babies board for WTE (What to Expect) and everyday there seems to be a post about 3D/4D ultrasounds. People pay over a $100 to get these pictures or a video of their little one. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this, but I'm trying to understand why so many people want to pay extra money for this service. During one of my ultrasounds this time around the tech turned the machine to 3D. She couldn't get a good picture of my little one, but what I saw creeped me out. I could easily pick out some features, when his arm wasn't in front of his face, but there was so much else floating around that it almost looked unnatural. Do people frame these pictures?? After C was born the ultrasound photos went in her baby box. I don't think we have looked at them since. Maybe I am missing something here.

We haven't bought much for the little man, except some clothes, and their really isn't much that we need since he'll be using the majority of his sister's stuff even if some of it is pink. For the first few months he'll be sleeping in the pack n play, so we aren't decorating a nursery, but I am planning to pick up a few new things that will eventually go in his room. Part of me feels completely unprepared for the second one, since we have most things already and the other part of me knows that whatever we do end up needing we can run out a grab afterwards. What I'm loving for our boy is Hedgehogs. I don't know why, but I have found a couple of cute Hedgehog things. Here are a couple of things I'm thinking about getting this time around.

Big Sister/Little Brother Shirt. Changing Pad Cover. Aden&Anais Swaddle Blankets. My Breast Friend. Hedgehog Lunchbox. Hedgehog Toy. Hedgehog print. Hedgehog print. Hedgehog Stuffed Animal

I'm hoping to have newborn photos taken, but I guess it will all depend on when he makes his arrival and if anyone is available. I would love to get some shots of the kiddos in Big Sister/Little Brother shirts.

Lastly 2 out of the 3 of us are addicted to Shake It Up by Taylor Swift. Most people either love her or hat her. I have been on the love train for quite some time, but finally felt as if I was growing up and losing interest and then she goes and releases her most recent single. C requests the song every time we get into the car. We tried video taping her singing in the car the other day, but she was acting shy.

Whatever Thursday

Back in May I got a membership to the Y. I signed C up for gymnastics and it wasn't much more to add the membership and get access to the pool. Let's just say that I didn't get much use out of the membership and after May we didn't sign C back up for gymnastics. It's not that she didn't like it, but we went on vacation and I completely forgot. However, I did start using the gym after vacation. The pool might have been the biggest disappointment. The Y has an activity pool just for kids that is only 2 feet deep except for the slide area. I had visions that we would be lounging by the pool every afternoon. Well the activity pool was only open through the weekends in May and part of June. Then when it opened during the week it was only open from 3-8. Finally after the 4th of July it started opening in the mornings. We tried to go at least twice a week after I would work out. It recently closed during the week which bummed us out. Now that the pool is closed we are looking to join gymnastics again.

Anyway the whole reason I mention the gym is because I'm a gym virgin and I'm wondering about locker room etiquette. This is my first gym membership. I don't use the locker room very often, but I'm curious as to what the unspoken rules are. I've used the showers twice. Some people are very free with themselves in the locker room, something I'm not totally comfortable with myself but to each her own. I've thought about leaving stuff in a locker, but since I'm not there everyday it seems pointless. However, I don't enjoy lugging my shower stuff with me when I do bring it.

Lastly, I love that they have a child watch program. When I first started going C was sleeping in more and I could go by myself. Since we has been waking up early I have to take her with me. It's nice to be able to drop her off and enjoy up to 2 hours of me time. Today we had our first mishap, another girl bit her. It was a pretty good bite but at least it didn't break the skin. I know this could happen anywhere, so I wasn't upset at the workers. I hope that she isn't afraid to go back.

I really want to go apple picking this fall. The season here seems to be short and we have a busy September. So far the only times that I tell the orchards are open are on the weekends. They are open usually one day a week for groups. The weekends I feel are the worst time to go as a family. The orchards are an hour and half away at least and everyone and their mother is probably there. I think it would make for a cute photo op, bring pregnant and all. I guess there is always the pumpkin patch if we don't make it to the orchards.

Maternity Fashion 6 Months and Pin-spired Challenge

I can't believe it's been another month has flown by. August was very busy for us celebrating birthdays and getting ready for MOPS to start again.

It's been really hot here so getting dressed has felt like a chore some days. I think we are in for at least on more HOT month before it begins to cool off here in SoCal. I can't wait for cooler weather, boots, scarves and sweaters. Although I don't know how many of those things I'll get to wear while pregnant. Don't let the pictures where I'm wearing my jean jacket fool you. I mainly wore it on days where I knew that I would be insides with AC. The same goes with the legging outfits.

6 Month Outfits

Most of the outfit descriptions can be found in my WIWW posts. If there are any expecting mamas reading hopefully this will inspire you to try some new ways to dress your bump. I have found that accessories can really help pull a "boring/plain" outfit together.

One of my favorite trends this past year has been camp. I've loved hunter green, but after seeing camo  around so much I was ready to jump on the wagon. For this month's Pin-spired challenge I'm linking up with Shay, Sheaffer and Mel and sharing my camo inspired outfit. I can't wait to pair these pants with scarves and sweaters come winter.
