20-21 Months

20-21 Months

Height: 31 inches; 25th percentile*
Weight: 20 lbs. 3oz.; 5th percentile*
Head Size: 18.27 inches; 51st percentile*
Teeth: 12 (6 on top, 6 on bottom), still waiting on those pesky other teeth
Foods: We have been struggling with foods the past few months. We have been on an eating strike.
Words: So many I haven't been able to keep up. You have started putting 2 words together and are talking more clearly.
Mommy's Milestones: You will try and climb anything, including walls, chairs and furniture. You are very social and like playing with older kids. You love to dance, jump and fall down. We went through a period of sleep regression, but thankfully it only lasted a week. You love the water, sand and rocks so we might have a tomboy on our hands. You can count to three. You know lots of animal sounds. We are still working on colors, but I know that will come.

What I Wore Wednesday

In edition to my Whatever Wednesday posts I've decided to jump on a bandwagon and link up with Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday. I've thought about doing a post like this for awhile. I participate in a Pin-spired linky party once a month, but Pinterest hasn't been inspiring me lately. So here are my own creations. Nothing fancy, but I'm getting a chance to re-wear some of my favorites in different ways. Please excuse the horrible selfie photos.

Whatever Wednesday

I cannot believe that Memorial Day is next Monday and that it's almost June. Seriously, where has this year gone?

We are leaving on a jet plane back to MO for almost 2 weeks next Tuesday. To say I'm excited would be an understatement. It will probably be our last trip while C can fly free. BUMMER. Flights from SD are ridiculously expensive. I used to get cheap deals on Frontier, but since they have gone the way of Spirit airlines, I won't be flying them anymore. A $125 flight now costs me $160. Since C is older now, I bought her a backpack for the trip and I plan to fill it with toys, goodies and other stuff to keep her entertained. I'm hoping it works. She's been carrying around the backpack all week. I have a feeling that I will end of carrying it while we are traveling. I've been collecting things to fill it with over the past few months.

A few weeks ago at our MOPS meeting, one of our members spoke on the importance of Play. For me at this age, this is really hard. C doesn't focus on one thing, is still learning to play with other, etc. To say I get bored would be an understatement. I feel like a terrible mother for saying this, but it's the truth. However, I have found that when I have sat down with her to color, paint or play play dough she is more likely to stay focused on the task and is better behaved. After hearing Christine speak I was challenged to intentionally play with C for 15 minutes several times a week. At this age, I may not see anything revealed during our time of play, but I'm hoping that it will start a habit that I think is really important as she grows up. We purchased play sand today to add to a sand tub that we will use during this time. It's portable so we can take it with us to a friend's house if needed. Now I'm on the hunt for cheap toys to add to it. I really want to find those pink army guys we played with. I'd love to hear other ideas on how moms play with their toddlers.

Since summer is around the corner we are creating a bucket list of activities to do. I'm excited to take advantage of FREE things in SD. I haven't written them on my clothespins because I'm so indecisive and I want to accomplish them if I write them down. Here's a list of ideas so far in no particular order.

1. Weekend trip to Catalina
2. Splashpad
3. Strawberry Picking
4. Sea World
5. Beach Day
6. Take a day trip up the coast on the Coaster

Whatever Weekend

As with almost all of my post, I start them one day and finish them several days later.

The heat did me in this week. We had 5 consecutive days of 90-100 degree weather. That was the second week in the past 3 weeks we've seen these temperatures. For a month known as May Gray it was definitely unexpected. Our rental doesn't have AC and it's poorly insulated so it's been a hot week.

Our city also faced many wildfires this week. On Tuesday as I was heading home from the zoo David called to tell me our area was being evacuated. I was in shock and scared.  Here's a photo a snapped on the way home. That smoke you see was coming from a neighborhood to the North of us. At one time 9 fires were ablaze across the city. Most schools were closed on Thursday and the schools in our neighborhood were closed Friday too. For someone who is used to snow days, I guess SoCal version is smoke days?? All fires except for one are out. On Saturday night, we could still smell smoke in the air.

The area rallied support for those who were evacuated and for the first responders. Several YMCAs opened their doors and provided FREE childcare to those affected. A couple girlfriends and I wanted to help out by donating water, snacks etc but they had received so many donations they turned us down. I'm amazed at the outpouring of generosity in our community.

Mother's Day and GOTR 5K

This past week has been crazy here leading up to Mother's Day. The organization I volunteer with GOTR hosted it's spring 5K yesterday. Not only did I serve as a coach this season, but I also was crazy enough to volunteer at the expo before and after the race.

Here was our selfie booth, where girls/families were able to use props and take photos. We used it as a way to celebrate the season and honor all the moms yesterday. The race was the largest one for the San Diego GOTR program and I was proud to be a part of it.

Lego partnered with GOTR this year and donated lego kits for the girls to use to express ideas/themes they learned this year.

Who doesn't love getting their hair spray painted?

The girls were encouraged to sign this poster as a pledge to not engage in girl to girl bullying.

Signing shirts. I remember signing shirts at the end of camp every year.

After all the fun and excitement of the morning I was ready for lunch and a nap which is what I enjoyed once I arrived home.  Here's our obligatory Mom and Me photo.

I would like to say a big thank you to my MIL for helping out this week. When she booked her flight she had no idea how much help she would be this week. And here's a Happy Mother's Day to my mom and sister. Can't wait to see you in a few weeks.

Easter

This post is long overdue, but here goes. We had a terrific Easter this year. C is getting older and is starting to understand holidays and activities more.

On the Saturday before Easter, several families from our church hosted a picnic and Easter egg hunt for the kiddos.  The food was fabulous and watching the kids hunt for eggs was hysterical. We divided the kids into two groups 2 and under and everybody else. Well, most of the kids fell into the first group and were all experiencing this egg hunting for the first time. C couldn't wait to begin. She didn't "steal" any eggs from the other kids but she wasn't sharing either. She came out with a haul and we ended up sharing with another girl. I was surprised at how fast she figured out what to do. We hadn't practiced or anything.

That evening we tried our hand at dying Easter eggs. At first C was more interested in blowing bubbles with the wand, but she did enjoy dropping the eggs into the water. We also made fruity pebble eggs for dessert.

Enjoying the Easter basket before church. Since Easter, we have had several more Easter egg hunts, although C doesn't quite grasp waiting for me to find the eggs before she finds them. We had fun at church and enjoyed a quite day at home.
